How to use Pen tool

            Pen tool in photoshop is the very useful and easy selection tool which is being used in all kinds of editing by everyone. Everybody new with photoshop feels very hard at pen tool, but obviously it's a very easy and simple tool with a great performance. Pen tool is also used for many purposes.

Select the pen tool from the tool bar as shown in the below figure (or) press "P", it's the shortcut of Pen tool.

Working with pen tool starts with a single click at the place where you want to start select or draw. If you want a straight line you just simply click the next point as shown in the below figure.

Making a curve is quite easy and fine adjustable by clicking, holding and dragging at the target area. You can adjust the size, angle and direction of the curve by simply dragging.

This is the Important point where people always suffer with. You have already made a curve, you might have suffered with this problem. The next point might have given you a unexpected curve you can never even adjust as your wish. This can be solved by Clicking again at the same point (middle) on holding the ALT key (ALT + CLICK). Or you can click at either 3 points where you like to start with.

If you did not use ALT + Click you would have gotten result like this.

If you again need to make curves do it by dragging, here next is a straight line so we have done with a single click below.

Like the same we did above click at the target and drag to adjust the angle.

                   

I have shown you above a very simple figure using pen tool. But when you're working with human face, animals, flowers and such things, you will have to make lot of curves to select the perfect outline of the figure. So please keep practising of handling the mouse for dragging with perfections.
